Todd Smith - Facilitator

I’ve been a seeker for as long as I can remember.

In high school, I did a science fair project measuring how laughter affected the body and reduced indicators of stress. Even then, I was curious about what actually shifts the nervous system.

I went on to study mathematics and science in college and later entered graduate school in physiology. I loved the clarity and rigor of scientific thinking — the careful observation, the willingness to test assumptions.

Then something unexpected happened.

After a summer of extended meditation, I realized I wanted to apply that same disciplined inquiry to my inner world. I didn’t want belief. I wanted understanding. I wanted to explore consciousness and subjective experience with the same seriousness I had applied to biology.

So I changed direction and began studying Vedic science.

It wasn’t a rejection of science.
It was an expansion of it.

Since then, I’ve spent decades exploring the inner world as carefully as I once studied the outer one.

I’ve been meditating for most of my life.
I’ve practiced yoga since I was young.
I’ve followed an Ayurvedic lifestyle for decades.
I’ve studied Indian philosophy deeply and lived in an ashram.

And then life asked for something more practical.

Marriage brought me into the everyday reality of relationship — where stress wasn’t abstract and growth wasn’t theoretical. I could be peaceful in meditation and still reactive in conversation.

That’s when I encountered The Work of Byron Katie.

Questioning my stressful thoughts gave me a bridge between depth and daily life. It allowed me to apply inquiry not just to consciousness in the abstract, but to the actual beliefs creating tension in real time.

Instead of trying to pretend nothing bothered me, I began looking carefully at what I was believing.

Over time, that changed everything — not through force, but through clarity.

That integration of meditation, disciplined inquiry, and practical relationship work became the foundation of how I work today.

How This Became My Work

For many years, I worked with individuals and groups focused on inner inquiry and self-understanding. Again and again, I noticed something.

The people most drawn to this depth of work often shared similar traits.

They felt things strongly.
They processed deeply.
They carried subtle emotional residue long after events had passed.

Many of them were Highly Sensitive People — though we didn’t know it at the time.

Eventually, I began to see that the nervous system I understood most intimately — through both my own experience and years of practice — was the highly sensitive one.

And so my work naturally refined itself.

Today, I work specifically with Highly Sensitive People who want to understand stress at its root — not just manage it, but see clearly what is creating it and how that experience can begin to shift from the inside.

How I Work

My approach is quiet and methodical.

It is influenced by science.
It is shaped by meditation.
It is grounded in inquiry.

We don’t try to eliminate sensitivity.
We don’t try to override stress.
We look carefully at what is happening in the mind.

When the mind sees differently — not intellectually, but genuinely — the nervous system follows.

The shift is often subtle.
And then it becomes real.

A Personal Note

I don’t see this work as self-improvement.

I see it as self-understanding.

When we look closely at what we’re believing, something often softens.
Not because we force it to — but because what felt solid turns out to be more flexible than we thought.

Stress begins to loosen its grip when we see more clearly what is actually happening inside us.
